Viceroy Lord Irwin announced a vague offer of Dominion Status in 1929.
The slogan "Go back, Simon" was echoed when the Simon Commission landed in India in 1928. The demonstrations included participation from all parties, including the Muslim League and the Congress. Viceroy Lord Irwin attempted to win them over by announcing a Round Table Conference to discuss a future constitution and a hazy offer of India's "dominion status" in the future. The Congress leaders weren't happy with this.
