Q.

A water sample is found to contain 96 ppm of  SO42  ion and 122 ppm of HCO3   ion with Ca+2   as the only cation (Assume no hydrolysis of any ion).
I) The molarity of  SO42  ion in the sample is 10PM  .
II) This water contains Q ppm  Ca+2 .
III) 1 mol. of CaO is consumed in removing  HCO3 ion from  10Rgm  of water described above. Determine the value of  P×Q10×R .

Detailed Solution

P = 3, Q = 80, R = 6
I)  MSO42=1106×1000=103M
II)  nSO42=1mol;nHCQ3=2mol
So, nCa2+=1+1=2mol  or  Ca2+=80ppm
III)  CaO+Ca(HCO3)21  mol2CaCO3+H2O
So,  nCaO=1mol   P×Q10R=80×310×6=4
