Speed of a transverse wave on a wire is given by
 υ=Tμ                            ....(1)
Differentiating with respect to tension, we have 
 dT=12μT                 ...(2)
Dividing Equation (2) by Equation (1), we get
 υ=12dTT dT=(2T)υ
 Substituting the values, we get
 dT=(2)(50)(312-300)300=4N
So, tension must be increased by 4 N
