The weighing scale measures nothing but the downward force on the body due to gravity.
According to the Archimedes principle:- “when an object is immersed fully or partially in a fluid, an upward force called buoyant force is experienced by the body, which is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object on immersing in it”.
So when the person’s weight is measured inside the water, it experiences an upward force equal to the weight of the displaced water. Consequently, the downward force measured by the weighing scale will be less than the weight measured in the air.
