Elevation of boiling point refers to the fact that a solution's boiling point is higher than that of a pure solvent because a liquid's boiling point (that of a solvent) rises when a chemical is added to it. This happens when a non-volatile solute like salt is mixed with a pure solvent like water. 

When methanol is added, water loses some of its boiling point. Due to a cooperative property with a higher boiling point, the solvent experiences an increase in vapour pressure when a more volatile solute is introduced
