Detailed Solution

100,000 people were arrested in the civil disobedience movement. A satyagraha was to be held by the Congress Party at the Dharasana Salt Works, located 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Dandi. However, Gandhi was detained at midnight on May 4–5, 1930, only days before the intended Dharasana movement. When the participants were detained by the colonial police on April 28, 1930, the campaign was over. Rajagopalachari, its leader, spent six months behind bars. The march, together with those in Dandi and Dharasana, brought the Indian independence struggle to the attention of the world. The movement destroyed public confidence in the British government, established the social foundation for the freedom struggle, and made new forms of propaganda, such as Prabhat Pheris, booklets, etc., more widely accepted.
