About 71 per cent of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. This water occurs in different forms on the surface of Earth, like oceans, rivers, lakes, glaciers and ice sheets. Out of this, 71 per cent, 97 per cent of the water on the surface of the Earth is in the form of oceans. The remaining 3 per cent of water is in the form of freshwater lakes and frozen water in glaciers and polar ice caps. Due to such a large amount of water present on the Earth, the Earth appears blue.
