Abul Fazl was historian.
Abul Fazal wrote the first two books of the Akbarnama. He writes in these works that the empire was split into subas, each headed by a subadar responsible for both military and administrative duties. Abul Fazl was introduced to Akbar in 1575. He was a literary genius. Slowly but surely, he gained the Emperor's favour. According to the historical reports of this period that are currently available, Abut Fazl was Akbar's most close friend, minister, and favourite, as well as the most renowned historian of the time.
