In 1931, he wrote that he found it hard to imagine that men with less wealth but more character do not get the right to vote due to their lack of money or education. To him, being unable to vote because of poverty felt like a crime. Gandhi, in his journal, seemed to advocate for the Universal Adult Franchise. "Universal Adult Franchise" refers to the voting rights of all adults in the country. A person over the age of 18 years has the power to vote. For a country to be called democratic, it has to have a universal adult franchise.
