Detailed Solution

According to the 2011 census of India, the population density is 382 people per sq. km.
Population density tells how many people reside in a particular area or a piece of land. In India, population distribution is uneven due to topography, climate, and rate of urbanisation and industrialisation. Densities range from 13 per sq km in Arunachal Pradesh to 904 per sq km in West Bengal. Because of the hilly, irregular, and rocky topography, little rainfall, and less fertile soils, Assam and most of the Peninsular states have moderate population densities. Due to its flat terrain, good soils, and plentiful rainfall, Kerala and the Northern Plains have high population densities.
