The BJP believed in Cultural Nationalism, also known as Hindutva, as an important element in its idea of Indian Nationhood and Politics. The Bharatiya Janata Party was formed in 1980 by reviving the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. It was established under the leadership of Syama Prasad Mukherjee in 1951. It wanted to create a new India, a powerful and modern India that would cherish its ancient past and value its culture. Its ideology was based on promoting ancient Indian culture and values, which they wanted the present generation to learn from and get inspired and lead the country. They also highly opposed the idea of religious conversion in the country.
