Acetylene's C-H bond is formed by a sp-hybridised carbon atom. Because s-electrons are closer to the nucleus than p electrons, electrons in a bond with a higher s-character will be closer to the nucleus. The electrons constituting this bond are more strongly bonded by the carbon nucleus in alkynes whose character is 50%. As a result, the acetylenic C-atom becomes more electronegative in comparison to sp2 and sp3, and the hydrogen atom on the carbon atom ( C - H) can be easily removed.
