Acid rains contain

Acid rain results when sulfur dioxide $\left({\mathrm{SO}}_2\right)$ and nitrogen oxides $\left({\mathrm{NO}}_{\mathrm{X}}\right)$ are emitted into the atmosphere and transported by wind and air currents. The ${\mathrm{SO}}_2$ and ${\mathrm{NO}}_{\mathrm{X}}$ react with water, oxygen and other chemicals to form sulfuric and nitric acids.
