- 7 + 2

Mark the point on -7 on the number line.
Here 2 is added so we have to we move it right two places on the number line.
By this we come on the number -5.

Thus,

- 7 + 2 = - 5

(b) Now we have,

1 + (- 5)

Mark 1 on the number line, Now we know that + (-)=”-“
Therefore, we must reduce 5 from it.
When we move 5 left on number line we reach at -4.

Thus,

1 + (- 5)

Here, mark point on -9 and move 5 left on the number line as we have to remove 5 from -9. By this we reach at -4.

8 + (- 3)
