Adivasis communities have always lived in close connection with forests. These days, they are forced to migrate to live as labourers in plantations, industries, and construction sites, and as domestic help using a combination of economic changes, forest policies, and the State and private industries applying political force. Many Adivasi areas are rich in minerals and other natural resources. So they get taken over for mining and other large industrial projects. Powerful forces have often conspired with government agencies to take over tribal lands. Many times, the land is taken from them forcefully and no procedures are followed. Official figures calculate that more than 50 percent of people displaced due to mining projects in the county are tribals. By losing their lands and access to forests, Adivasis lose their main sources of food, income, and livelihood.
