African-American is the term used for Black African-descent Americans. " The term "blacks" has come into widespread use since 1988 when Pastor Jesse Jackson held a press conference to urge Americans to use it to refer to blacks. African-Americans have taken a very dark place in health matters. For example, "breast cancer tumours in African-American women are much stronger than tumours in white women." The term has been controversial, in part because it is unclear. It may be limited to African immigrants to the United States or people born to one African parent and one American parent. Some have argued that the term "African American" should refer only to the descendants of slaves brought from Africa to America.
