After independence, the boundaries of old states were changed to create new states.
Following independence, old states' borders were redrawn to create new States. This was done primarily to ensure that people of the same language, culture, and so on could live in the same state. Some states were formed to recognise cultural, ethnic, or geographical differences rather than language differences. Nagaland, Uttarakhand, and Jharkhand are among these states. The Central Government has long opposed linguistic states. Historically, the formation of linguistic States has strengthened the country's unity. It has also made administration easier.
