In Indian society, life was deeply unequal and unjust. Many sections of society were discriminated against. Some people were discriminated against based on their caste and were denied several facilities such as transportation services, medical services, education, and even access to places of worship. A boy child was preferred over a girl child, who was not valued equally. Thus, after independence, the government made special provisions in the form of laws and guidelines to uplift all the sections of society that were treated unjustly. For example, to encourage parents to send their girl children to school, the government may lower or even waive the school fees for a girl child. In this way, the government is trying to remove inequality and injustice from society.
