Meiosis I is associated with the reduction in number of chromosomes i.e., half of the number of chromosomes present in parent cell.

After meiosis I, the resultant daughter cells have half of the number of chromosomes present in parent cell but  twice the amount of DNA in comparison to haploid gamete .
