Detailed Solution

After the Chauri Chaura incident, Gandhiji was forced to halt the Non-cooperation movement.
The famous Chauri Chaura incident occurred on February 4, 1922, in Chauri Chaura, Gorakhpur District, United Province of Uttar Pradesh, British India. The Non-Cooperation Movement demonstrators, who were in considerable numbers, battled with the police, who then started firing. In retribution, the protesters assaulted and destroyed a police station, murdering everyone who was inside. Three civilians and 23 police officers died as a result of the incident. As a direct result of this occurrence, Mahatma Gandhi, who vehemently opposed violence, ended the Non-Cooperation Movement on a national level on February 12, 1922.
