After the decline of Indian textiles, the weavers and spinners became plantation workers and agricultural labourers and migrated to cities.
The weavers of India before the 18th century earned huge profits through international trade. Indian textiles dominated the European markets. However, with the industrial revolution, materials production in England increased and replaced Indian textiles. As a result, the demand for Indian textiles declined gradually. In India, the local markets were also flooded with British fabrics, forcing the traditional weavers to leave their jobs. They were unable to pay revenue or sustain themselves. The weaver, in search of livelihood, turned to agriculture. Some of them migrated to cities to find jobs for sustenance. Few weavers became plantation workers and migrated overseas.
