Detailed Solution

After the imposition of The Forest Act of 1878, people were permitted to collect wood from Protected Forests.
Protected forests have some level of statutory and constitutional protection in some regions as the habitat, and local animals are legally protected from future extinction. However, as they live on the forest's edge and depend entirely or mainly on its resources and products, the local community in protected forests occasionally obtains access rights for activities like hunting and grazing. The state government made the declaration by the Indian Forest Act of 1878. Thus the forest department designated over one-third of the forest area as a protected forest. Eventually, these protected forests were transformed into wildlife refuges.
