Let the present age of John be x and Ahmad will be x + 7.
Four year ago their ages were (x – 4) and (x + 7) – 4 = x + 3
As per the given condition,
(x + 7) – 4 = 2(x – 4)
⇒ x + 3 = 2x – 8
⇒ x – 2x = –3 – 8
= –x = –11
x = 11
∴ Present age of John is 11 year and Ahmed is (11 + 7) = 18 years
7 year later, their ages will be John : (11 + 7) = 18 year
and Ahmed : (18 + 7) = 25 years
Sum of their ages after 7 years will be (18 + 25) = 43 years
