Akbar was Thirteen years old when he became emperor. After Babur and Humayun, Akbar was the third emperor of the Mughal Empire. He succeeded to the throne after the death of his father, Humayun. Humayun died due to an accident. At first, the administration was under the regent Bairam Khan and other domestic staff. He built an efficient administration and revenue system with the help of Todar Mal. Later he became independent of it. He organised a military campaign against Suris, other Afghans, Malwa, and Gondwana. In 1568, he seized the Sisodiya capital of Chittor. It was under him the Mughal empire expanded its reign of control and became a prominent one in North and Central India. It maintained religious tolerance.
