Akbar was 13 years old when he became emperor of The Mughal Empire.
On February 14, 1556, Akbar succeeded Humayun as he died fighting Sikandar Shah to retake the Mughal throne. Akbar was crowned by Bairam Khan in Kalanaur, Punjab. Akbar had just begun to enter adolescence, when he was crowned emperor. Bairam Khan took care of him and oversaw his affairs until he grew old enough to take over matters of the empire on his own.
