Timur inspired Akbar's architects. During Akbar's reign, there were some significant architectural innovations:
Akbar's architects looked to the graves of his Central Asian ancestor, Timur. The soaring central dome and the tall doorway (pishtaq) developed significant features of Mughal architecture, starting with Humayun's tomb. It was constructed according to the "eight paradises" or hasht bihisht tradition, with a central hall flanked by eight rooms in the middle of a sizable traditional Chahar bagh. Red sandstone was used to build the structure. White marble was used around it.
