Emperor Akbar, the third ruler of the Mughal Empire, is renowned for his legacy as a ruler and father. Among his sons, the most prominent was Prince Salim, who later ascended the throne as Emperor Jahangir. Jahangir, born on August 31, 1569, in Fatehpur Sikri, was Akbar's eldest surviving son with his chief empress, Mariam-uz-Zamani. He ruled the Mughal Empire from 1605 to 1627, continuing Akbar's legacy of expansion and consolidation.

Other Sons of Akbar

• Hassan and Hussain: Akbar's twin sons, born to his wife Ruqaiya Sultan Begum in 1564. Sadly, both passed away in infancy, leaving them less recognized in historical narratives.
• Murad Mirza: Born on June 15, 1570, to a concubine, Murad was known for his military exploits. However, he struggled with alcoholism, which led to his untimely death in 1599.
• Daniyal Mirza: Born on September 11, 1572, to a concubine and raised by Mariam-uz-Zamani, Daniyal showed promise but succumbed to alcoholism, dying in 1605.

Legacy

Among all his children, Jahangir was the only son who lived to inherit Akbar's throne. His reign marked a continuation of the policies and vision set forth by Akbar, ensuring the Mughal Empire's dominance in India.
