Al-Biruni wrote the book known as Kitab-ul-Hind. Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni, from 997 to 1030, ruled over parts of Central Asia, Iran, and the northwestern part of the subcontinent. He was curious about the people he conquered and commissioned a scholar named Al-Biruni to write an account of the subcontinent. This Arabic work, known as the Kitab ul-Hind, is still used by historians today. To prepare this account, he consulted Sanskrit scholars. In addition, he discussed Hindu religious beliefs, traditions, and social organisation.
