Continued self-pollination result in inbreeding depression. Bud pollination, cleistogamous (closed) flowers and homogamy (Male and female sex organs matures at the same time) promotes self-pollination and causes inbreeding depression. Self-incompatibility avoids self fertilisation and hence avoids inbreeding depression.
