Different people have different threshold and reasons for having disease. In the case of a child suffering from cholera we can infer that the sickness is due to a viral pathogen which is the immediate cause of the disease. The contributory causes can be lack of proper nutrition, impure drinking water, unhygienic environment, lack of proper sanitation, or even genetic predisposition.
