Matters are substances that are made up of some particles. These tiny particles are known as atom. 

An atom has a nucleus in its centre and is surrounded by electrons. The nucleus contains neutrons which are neutral and protons which are positively charged. Therefore nucleus as a whole is positively charged. The electrons on the other hand are negatively charged.
