When in February 2005, king Gyanendra took over the power and dissolved the Parliament, people in Nepal, seeing their democratic rights getting suspended, started a nationwide strike one after another. The movement had been headed by the Seven Party Alliance and constructed by all the major political parties. The strike had been lashed by Maoist insurgents that turned the struggle into an indefinite strike. People took to the lanes and fought the government-inflicted curfew. The king approved all three needs and lost his powers, and again, a constitutional monarchy was inaugurated in Nepal on 24 April 2006.
