Alluri Sitaram Raju was associated with the Non-cooperation Movement. However, the tribals protested in the form of guerilla warfare and resorted to violent means. He regarded that he had special powers and could heal anyone. He was proclaimed as an incarnation of God Raju was inspired by Gandhiji. But he believed that the British could be removed by violent means, unlike Gandhiji, who resorted to peaceful satyagraha. He supported guerilla warfare, inspired people to attack British officials, etc. Raj was, however, arrested by the government and executed in 1924. He, thus, became a folk hero for the tribals.
