Aluminium oxide and zinc oxide show both acidic as well as basic behaviour. Such types of oxides are called [[1]] oxides. 

Amphoteric oxides are those oxides which show both acidic and basic behaviours. Eg  Aluminium oxide, and zinc oxide. These oxides undergo a neutralisation reaction with both acids as well as bases and produce salt and water.
