Amar Jiban was published in 1876. Amar Jiban was the autobiography of Rashsundari Debi, written in 1876. She became the first Bengali and the first Indian woman to publish an autobiography. She was a housewife from a wealthy landowner's family. She lived in a time when learning to read and write was thought to be bad luck for a woman's marriage. At 59 years old and a few months after her husband's passing, Rashsundari became a widow. She also picked up writing skills. She eventually authored her autobiography in Bengali, Amar Jiban, which translates to "My Life", with the support of her family.
