Amar Jiban was the autobiography of Rashsundari Devi written in 1876. She became the first Bengali and the first Indian woman to publish an autobiography. She was a housewife from a wealthy landowner's family. She lived in a time when learning to read and write was thought to be bad luck for a woman's marriage. At 59 years old and a few months after her husband's passing, Rashsundari became a widow. She also picked up writing skills. She eventually authored her autobiography in Bengali, Amar Jiban, which translates to "My Life", with the support of her family.
