America was named after Amerigo Vespucci. Amerigo Vespucci was an Italian explorer and navigator who travelled to the new world in 1499 and 1502. Vespucci was a well-read man who soon realised the new world was not Asia. It was a completely new land. His travelogues were published between 1502-1504 and got immensely popularised because they were entertaining and educational. In 1507, a German Cartographer named Martin Waldseemuller decided to create a new map that included the ‘new world’. But Martin took reference from only Vespucci’s writings.
