American women got the right to vote in 1920.
For over 50 years, women's legal right to vote in the US was established, first in many states and localities, occasionally on a limited basis, and then nationally in 1920 with the ratification of the 19th Amendment. The demand for women's suffrage emerged from a more significant movement for women's rights in the 1840s and started to gain momentum. Despite opposition from some of its organizers who thought the notion was too radical, the Seneca Falls Gathering, the first convention for women's rights, voted a resolution in favour of women's suffrage in 1848. But voting was starting to play a more prominent role in the movement's activities by the time of the first National Woman's Rights Convention in 1850.
