It is given that Amina thinks of a number and subtracts

from it and she multiplies the result by 8.
Let the required number be x.
Linear equation will be

8 × x − 52

The result now obtained is 3 times the same number she thought of.
Linear equation will be

8 × x − 52 = 3 x

Solving the equation ,

⇒ 8 × x − 8 × 52 = 3 x ⇒ 8 x − 4 × 5 = 3 x ⇒ 8 x − 20 = 3 x

Transposing 3x to the left-hand side and -20 to the right-hand side.

⇒ 8 x − 3 x = 20 ⇒ 5 x = 20 ⇒ x = 205 ⇒ x = 4

Hence, the required number is 4.
