Detailed Solution

Concept- In electrochemicals cells, active eletrodes are used. There are two types of electrodes and they are active electrode and inert electrode.
An active electrode is called "active" because it actively participates in a chemical reaction. These electrodes can be oxidised or reduced.  An active electrode is a metal  used in making electrochemical cells. It is also used in electroplating. The most commonly used active electrode is a copper electrode.
Inert electrodes are electrodes that transfer electrons rather than exchange ions with the aqueous solution in which they are immersed. No chemical reaction is involved. Example: Platinum electrode, graphite electrode.
Hence, an active electrode is used for making electrochemical cells.
