Detailed Solution

An additional 22 regional languages other than Hindi are recognised as Scheduled Languages by the Constitution. The languages that are recognised as official by the government of the Republic of India are detailed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India. Inclusion in this list meant, at the time the Constitution was enacted, that the language was entitled to representation on the Official Languages Commission and that the language would be one of the bases that would be drawn upon to enrich Hindi, the official language of the Union.
