Detailed Solution

An agreement between the Irish Republican Army and the British government was signed in 2005. The Belfast Agreement was a peace treaty that was signed between the British and Irish governments and most of the political parties of Northern Ireland. The treaty provided how Northern Ireland's country should be governed. The sole aim or purpose of the treaty was to establish or bring about a system of new democratic government in which the political parties, namely the Unionists and the Nationalists, would share the power. It was also a significant step in the peace-building process for the country of Northern Ireland.
