Detailed Solution

An art form called Ukiyo means pictures of the floating world. The term ukiyo means “pictures of the floating world” in Japanese. The word was used to refer to an art form prevalent in 17th-century Japan. The major characteristic of this art form was the depiction of the everyday life of the common people. The process of the art formation involved creating the outline of the drawing, which was pasted on a wooden block. The block was then carved and used to print. The prints were so popular that they found their way across the seas to contemporary Europe and America. One of the famous Japanese artists known for ukiyo was Kitagawa Utamaro.
