An electric fuse is based on the heating effect of the current.
The wire inside the electric fuse melts when a high current flows in the electric circuit because of an overloading current or a short circuit that increases the current flow. This high current produces heat. Also, the fuse wire is made up of wire having a low melting point. Hence, the fuse wire melts on the increased heat by the overcurrents.
