An electric lamp of resistance 20 ohm and a conductor of resistance 4 ohm are connected to a 6 V battery , then the total resistance of the circuit is 24 ohm. 
Here, we can say that both the resistances are connected in series in the circuit. So, the equivalent resistance of two resistance connected in series is the sum of two resistances. Therefore, the equivalent resistance of the circuit will be 20 + 4 = 24 ohm.
