Detailed Solution

An instrument which is used to detect a charged body is called an electroscope.
It is made up of a metal rod. Two leaves of aluminium foil are fixed at one end and a metal disc at another end. The leaves of aluminium foil are placed in a conical flask and leaves are isolated from air in the flask. When the metal disc comes in contact with any changed body then aluminium foil leaves separate from each other. This is due to the transfer of charges to leaves through a metal rod. If the body is not charged then leaves will not separate from each other.
