An instrument used for finding depth of sea, is called sonar.
Sound Navigation and Ranging (SONAR) is a device which is used to measure the depth of the sea. Multibeam Echo sounder (MBE) is a type of SONAR which is usually used for this purpose. It is fixed on a ship that sends frequent sound waves inside the sea, and the depth can be measured by noting when the echo will be heard.
