An ionic compound dissolves when?

Ionic compounds are those compounds which are made up of ions that form up the  charged particles when an atom gains or an atom loses electrons. A cation is that ion which is charged positively whereas an anion is an ion which is charged negatively. When the ions are completely separated by the water molecules in the solution, only then an ionic compound is able to dissolve.
