Detailed Solution

a) Given,  here we are using sign convention rules

     Object distance, u=20 cm

     Radius of curvature, R = 30 cm

     Focal length,

                                             f=R2=15 cm

     Size of image, h=5 cm

     Let size of image be h'

     From mirror formula,

                                               1v+1u=1f

     Substituting the values,

                                             1v+1-20=115

     On simplification,

                                           v= 8.57 cm

The positive value of v indicates that the image is formed behind the mirror.

b) Equation of magnification is,

                                            m= h'h=-vu

    The height of image,

                                            h'=h×-vu

    Substituting values,

                                           h'=5×-8.57-20

    On simplification,

                                          h'=2.14 cm

Since the height of image is positive and less than the value of height of object, it will be erect and diminished.

Thus, the image is formed at a distance of 8.57 cm behind the mirror. Nature of image is virtual, erect and diminished. And the size of the image is h'=2.14 cm
