Detailed Solution

If the object is kept at a distance of 4 m in front of a spherical mirror which forms its erect image at a distance of 1.0 m from the mirror. The mirror will be concave with a magnification of  0.25 m.
Given,
Object distance, u=-4 m
Image distance, v=1 m
It is known that the magnification (m) of the mirror is given by
m=-vu
On substituting the values, we get
m=-1(-4)
m=+0.25 m
Since the magnification is positive and it is given that the image is erect, the mirror is convex and value of the magnification is +0.25 m.
